Rosenthal started his career playing for Maccabi Haifa; his performances were so impressive that he earned a lucrative move to Club Brugge of Belgium. He spent two seasons at the club, before moving to Standard liege of Belgium. His time in Belgium was very successful, helping Brugge win the league championship in 1988 and was a favourite in the Belgian league. His brilliant performances earned him a transfer to English Champions, Liverpool, for a well worth £1 Million. He soon became a favourite at Liverpool; he helped them win the 1990 league title and went on to become a permanent fixture in the Liverpool starting line up. After four years at the club he moved down to the South of England, London. He spent three seasons playing for Tottenham, a club which has many Israeli and Jewish supporters. After three splendid seasons at White Hart lane, he played for Watford; however he retired from playing professional football at the end of the 1998-99 season.
He has played on 60 occasions for Israel, starting 40 of the matches.
